Colorbond Spraying
Yes, Colorbond fences can be painted. The confusion is because of warranty. Unfortunately, painting your Colorbond fence that’s under 10 years of age will void it. That said, there is absolutely no reason why it cannot be painted.
After a thorough wash down and light scuff if needed, a high quality acrylic paint such as Dulux Weatherhshield® can be applied.
Repainting Colorbond isn’t as easy as cutting and rolling interior walls – here, a quality spray machine is paramount for a proper finish and to get inside of all those hard to reach areas.
At Imperial Painters Gold Coast, we know Colorbond inside out — from the right prep and primers to perfect spraying technique.

Preparation – Fence painting done right
Fence painting starts long before the first drop of paint hits the surface. At Imperial Painters Gold Coast, we put in the hard yards up front to ensure your fence or exterior wall doesn’t just look sharp on day one — it stays that way for years to come.
Proper surface prep, premium weather-resistant coatings, and a process built for Gold Coast conditions all work together to deliver a finish that lasts. No early flaking, no fading in six months — just a durable, professional result that holds strong through sun, salt, and storms. Because real value in fence painting isn’t in the first impression — it’s in how long that impression lasts.
We start by stripping away old, flaking paint on render walls, we’ll pressure washing the grime and flakey paint away. Allow proper drying, undercoat with a a sealer for proper results. With timber fences, we sand back splinters, punch and fill nail holes, and ensure every panel is sound. For Colorbond or masonry walls, we’ll power wash and sand and surface imperfections to make sure new paint bonds properly, and looks it’s best.
Prep can take up the better part of a day, but it’s what separates a quick coat from a flawless, long-lasting finish. By the time we lay down the first coat, 90% of the imperfections are already boxed off. That first coat reveals anything missed, and we fine-tune it before locking it in with a second — and often final — weather-resistant finish.

How much does it cost to hire a Gold Coast Fence Painter?
Simply put, an Imperial Fence painter costs $75 per hour of labour if hiring on a hourly basis. The rate of hourly rate of painters in Australia can be anywhere from $40 in regional places to as high as $100 in Sydney.
To get an accurate price on your fence painting, we’d need take a brief look just to get an idea of size but more importantly the level of prep work involved. What does this mean? Well, for a painter, the existing condition of surfaces is a huge part of our day to day jobs. Does your fence have any existing issues with paint peeling and water retention, does the fence need priming, does the fence need to be paint stripped first. It’s always more price efficient to quote a job rather than hire out on an hourly basis.
However, you can expect to pay $75 per hour for a good painter on the Gold Coast. This hourly rate does not include materials but you will save heaps of cash on paint by using a painting company since our volume of purchases through Dulux allow us to get drums 20-40% cheaper than the public can.

Has the Gold Coasts weather made your render wall’s paint bubble & peel?
What causes render wall paint to peel? Well, there are many reasons. If no primer was used prior to the first paint coat, the raw render can quickly suck up any moisture leading to a dry, and brittle paint layer that will fail in due time. Exterior paints are actually designed to be thick and flexible to account for expansion and contraction of surfaces, to retain that quality, a primer coat must be used first.
But the most likely reason by a long shot is water ingress. Simply put, moisture is trapped within the wall. As the sun heats up the surface, the hot air and vapors expand, and with no where else to go, the paint adhesion is broken and pushed outward until the wall eventually cools and the bubble subside.
What causes water ingress? This isn’t always the fault of the original painter. Over time, walls can shift creating cracks and old paints can begin to fail under the harsh weather, small amounts of water on humid and rainy days are pulled further into the wall with no where to escape. Another common reason is failed waterproofing on the backside of a retaining wall, in such instances a thorough investigation may be required. A wall must be free from moisture to prevent blistering.
What is the solution? We will locate the leak and cracks and complete a repair. Remove any failing paint prior to repainting and apply a waterproofing layer. This must be done during a warm dry spell to allow for moisture to escape. 222
